Chemical Peel 101: The Process, the Peel, and the Recovery
What to Expect During a Chemical Peel: The Process and Recovery
If you’ve ever wondered what getting a chemical peel is like, we’ve got you covered. At Uplift Skin and Body, chemical peels are one of our most popular treatments for achieving smoother, brighter, a more even skin tone. Whether you’re new to peels or just curious about the process, here’s a simple breakdown of what to expect—before, during, and after your appointment.
Before Your Peel
First things first, we’ll start with a consultation. Your Aesthetician will examine your skin closely and discuss your goals—whether that’s reducing dark spots, smoothing fine lines, or giving your skin a serious glow-up. Based on your needs and skin type, we’ll recommend the best type of peel for you.
To prep your skin, avoid exfoliants, retinoids, or sun exposure for a few days beforehand. Hydration is key!
During Your Peel
A chemical peel is a rather quick, in-office treatment that typically takes about 30-60 minutes. After cleansing and prepping your skin, we’ll apply a carefully selected acid blend, usually a blend including Glycolic or Salicylic acid, to exfoliate and remove the top layer of dead skin cells.
While the peel is active, you might feel a slight tingling or warming sensation. Most clients describe it as manageable, and we’re always here to ensure you’re comfortable.
After Your Peel: What Recovery Looks Like
Right after your treatment, your skin may feel tight and appear slightly pink—like a light sunburn. Over the next few days, light flaking or peeling may occur (this is normal!). This is your skin’s way of renewing itself.
We’ll provide you with aftercare tips and recommend products to help soothe and protect your skin. It’s important to avoid sun exposure and moisturize your skin during recovery.
Most people notice brighter, smoother, more refreshed skin within a week. And if you do a series of peels? Even better results!
